#rawfoodcleanseRaw for a Week

Last week my husband and I decided on a week-long raw food cleanse. It left us feeling squeaky clean, energized, lighter, and boosted our bond together. Here is why and how we did it.

Why Cleanse?

Why were we looking for a cleanse? Well, many individuals would argue the futility of cleanses, fasting, detoxes, and so on. I’ve watched and researched numerous studies in relation to the final outcome of detoxing and the scientific benefits or lack of benefits on the body. At the end of the day, any change in diet is going to show results and benefit in one way or another. Read more…

avocadoAll About The Avocado

One of the things I like best about being back in a sunny climate is that I get to have an abundance of creamy tasty avocados in my diet. I’m in heaven! I used to always buy them in Ireland but they just didn’t taste the same– by the time they were “ripe” they were almost rotten yet hard? I still ate them as they’re so good for you, and I was grateful to even be able to find them there in the first place, seeing it’s hardly the climate for them.

#Paleo#Glutenfree#DairyFree Etc

These day’s it seems that if you’re not on the #paleo#glutenfree#dairyfree#vegan#, etc…bandwagon, then my friend – your food choices are just substandard. Yes, they’re all good in my books and I include each and every one of those above mentioned hashtags in my diet, and I congratulate all who maintain these diets successfully, but that’s not my issue here. The issue I have is with the general lack of knowledge on what it truly means to follow that particular diet…Read More

Buying Real Food On A Budget

Most people assume healthy eating has to cost you an arm and a leg. Not true in my opinion. It all comes down to making the right choices, sticking to a budget, and knowing where real value lies. So often I observe people in the supermarkets going for these cheap pre-made meals, nuggets, cheap sausages, frozen or canned pasta because it seems to be affordable…Read More

The Truth About Beetroots

You may or may not be a beetroot fan, but I bet you’ll be reaching for them after reading this. The idea for this post came to me strangely enough after watching an episode of “Come Dine With Me”, a popular cooking show where random strangers are put together in competition to see who can win a cash prize for best dinner host. They each take a turn to cook and host at their house and are then rated from 1-10 by their team mates….Read More

10 Healthy Stocking Fillers

Being the health nut that I am I can have the tendency to go über religious not wanting a single treat, sweet, or junk food anywhere near my family. I have found that this isn’t a good balance as it puts too much pressure on being “perfect” instead of enjoying life around you. The dilemma of what to do anytime an occasion comes along which contains copious amounts of sweets? Help!! As a mom, do I relax and let my children enjoy a few chocolate treats and occasional fast food, or do I stay righteous and eat none?…Read More

Time To Start Eating Pumpkin

Don’t even get me started on the benefits alone of its color, my house is full of orange, I just can’t get enough of it (don’t worry I didn’t paint the walls orange:-)…Read More

It’s Okay to Be a Label Nerd

I’ll admit I used to be slightly irritated when out grocery shopping observing certain individuals obsessively reading the labels of the products they were buying. What were they looking for? What was it all about, and was it really necessary…or just a bit OTT? Well I am proud to say that I am that person (keep reading and you’ll find out why)!…Read More

3 Reasons To Get Sprouting

Sprouts are some of the cheapest and very convenient, ” super foods” that are often overlooked by the more flashy “high-fashion” health foods. In relation to vegetables, they are essentially “live” vegetables. Once a vegetable is picked the nutritional value starts to decline, a bean sprout however retains its nutrients until eaten… Read More

3 Reasons Why I choose Parmigiano

It’s no secret that cheese is, and has been for many years, a fantastic source of calcium and protein in a healthy diet. But which type of cheese gives us the best benefits with the least amount fat? It’s important to know that vegetables, nuts, and grains give us plenty of calcium, and we would do good to make this our main source–another reason why it’s so important to eat our greens!! Calorie Density Awareness For Preventative Weight Gain

Here is something to think about –Calorie Density and Liquid Calorie. What is that exactly? If I told you that eating this tiny little handful of cherry gummy’s (100 gr)was the same as eating this amount of baby potatoes (1/2 kg) would you eat it? …Read More

The Master Cleanse

I would like to start by saying that I’m not hot on diets, yo-yo dieting, or cutting out different food groups (unless it’s sugar or fast food junk:-)) It’s just a matter of personal opinion…seeing we’re all allowed one!! I just don’t think it really has long-term success. My belief is still as mentioned in a previous post, that for long-term Healthy Living, one should choose a practical target. In my case I like to live by a 70%/30%. With proper eating and exercising being at the 70%, and room for practical compromise at 30%. This is how I maintain a Healthy Lifestyle without feeling I need to be perfect 100% of the time…Read More

Yes, you read right, I said “tumor-kick!” Well, you could practically call it that with all the properties it has to fight breast, prostate, colon and skin cancer. Hopefully you’ve figured out by now that I’m talking about the spice called Turmeric. It has long been used in the world of cooking, but also equally in medicine…Read More

Juicer Booster For Daily Health

While visiting my family during the holiday season I picked up this great juice recipe. I would have to give the credit here to my dad as when talking about fighting flu’s, coughs, and colds during the winter months, he mentioned that he drinks this awesome concoction to help fight off any sickness that may be creeping up on him. It’s jammed packed with vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants, etc. I had to try it out of course, and I’m proud to say that I love it and it works for me and mine.(Thanks Dad!)…Read More

How To Have Your Pasta & Eat It

I’ll be honest I’ve never been into calorie counting, it would drive me nuts! I am however a firm believer in exercise accompanied by healthy eating. Food is not only a pleasure for the senses, but fuel for the body. I don’t believe in depriving myself from the odd treat here or there (give me a fluffy piece of home-made cake any day, yum!)…Read More
